Graph Team needs to hire Delphi digital to fix the tokenomics ASAP. High inflation is a security risk. It does not help with bootstrapping the network early on because yields get suppressed by inflation lowering the price of the token you’re yielding (ROI versus USD & ETH) while capital inflows lower overall APY chasing the same rewards. Basically I feel this is a negative feedback loop that can end up in a death spiral. I thought the 3% inflation was baked into the 8.8B tokens being released over time with a capped supply of 10B. Curator/delegation burn rate can not even come close in the first few years. Idk what the parameters were on testnet. to judge where a potential deflationary tipping point would be.

Also most of the circulating supply is not delegating or price goes up from sell side liquidity (1.2B circulating:1.3B staked). Exchanges have plenty of depth. The 1.3B is 95% early backers who’s tokens are locked until month 6, then what? A decaying price also slowly erodes away the community/speculators/enthusiasm. A community brings free advertisement and will build cool stuff for free as they see a financial benefit in the long run. Speculators bidding up the price only helps increase the treasury to be recycled into research/hires/development.

I’m looking at the graph use case and I see that every project is already using it. I just spent looking up 30 of the main DeFi projects and they all have subgraphs. Then I see the price and tokenomics. I’m very conflicted. This project solves the problem of allowing you to offload combining the data to the serving layer instead of doing it yourself in the code which would take hours of time not to mention continued upkeep which costs money. It would be much easier to just search the info you need and have it query automatically, forever.

Ok so I figured out the graph is useful and being used today but then I look at the tokenomics and I see high inflation with a high supply. I am not sure how to play such a conundrum. If I know the graph has already solved the problem and being used by every protocol what do I do.
