Won’t BTC price naturally go up over time as people die without mechanisms in place to pass on their keys?

Adoption is commensurate with price. By all meaningful metrics, BTC has been an absolute Goliath in terms of adoption since inception and has followed Metcalf’s law (power law). It’s following trends observed in the adoption of electricity, fax machines, cell phones, social media giants, etc...

It could all crumble here ... there are no guarantees... but it seems less likely to happen now than at any point in BTC’s history.

I think people confuse adoption with transactibility ala Visa, MasterCard, etc ... BTC isn’t there yet... but people are hoarding it as ‘money’ because, fundamentally, this is what BTC set out to supplant/reinvent.

To your point, no other superior tech has taken the reins, and I believe this is because the whole crypto experiment is still in its infancy and moving into an adolescence phase. If BTC dies here, I have tough time seeing a Phoenix rising from the ashes to take its place as most crypto projects all operate on the same starting principles.

I’m of the opinion that it’s way too early to create allegorical comparisons to MySpace as BTC has in no way reached critical mass. It’s possible a better version will take over at some point, but it’s 5-10+ years out in my view. The first mover advantage matters in this instance as crypto is just beginning to engender some collective mind share and find its place. Your best long term bet should lean on this network effect as it reaches deeply into all emergent technologies and stems from irreducible rules knit into the natural world.

Bigger fish eat more krill, and I think this will be the case with BTC until it reaches some asymptotic top (ala MySpace).
