The ancient English still lived in Germany in antiquity. The Anglo-Saxons didn't invade England until the 6th century. But, at any rate, the Romans thought that all the northern Europeans were barbarians, which is what makes the German master-race theory so amusing. The ancient Germans practised human sacrifice. At best you have some pining for the "noble savage" in Tacitus during the 2nd century A. D., during the period of Rome's luxury and decline.
