Want to become a doctor? sure go to university

Want to become a software dev? Heck no. Take some online courses, create simple project/app related to the field you want to work in.

I'm self taught and this is how i got hired. And now when we hire for new junior positions, the company I'm at no longer cares to look at uni degrees. We've learn't so many graduates have the technical knowledge, but can't or have very little experience to actually doing any practical coding. Typical dev roles don't even require so much garbage you learn at uni. Maybe as you become more senior when it comes to things like design patterns and such, but those if you're applying to a decent company will train you as you scale up the ladder.

So from my personal experience and also my friends, I say no to university (if planning to become a software/web developer, also i live i nthe south east uk whilst my friend lives up north so applies to both parts of the uk)
