Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers is a good read on this topic regarding Bill Gates. Gates was on the absolute cutting edge of access to computer technology from his youth when he was living in a home within walking distance of the most modern supercomputers invented yet.
You can be the world's most intelligent man but not be wealthy. Chris Langan, also in Outliers, is an example of that. He's just a rancher in the middle of nowhere right now
