If you can build a pc and troubleshoot windows on your own you can probably do fine in a helpdesk role. I watched a 10 minute video about active directory before my first helpdesk interview and I'm sure it helped me land the job. Get familiar with an enterprise ticketing system so you can say you've worked with it, every IT interview will ask which ticketing system you've used in your previous role. It helps if you don't just flat out lie but exaggerate your credentials. My only IT job before getting into helpdesk was as a deployment tech (literally just unplugging old pcs and plugging in new ones) but I put it down as helpdesk.
