Depends where you are. Canada before 1967 with some 50% in 1967-68. USA 1964 and before. Anywhere else ask someone else.

If you're just starting out, what are your goals?
Do you care about anonymity? If yes buy small orders at a physical coin shop in person in cash.
Do you care about bulk? If yes, youre going to buy bigger bars at a lower premium (read: dealer's mark up above spot price.).
Do you care about SHTF or liquidity? If Yes, buy older circulation silver or smaller weights of silver or easily divisible gold. Pic related is a US coin silver chart.
