Why are we here?

The Gamestop Theory thesis is a hypothesis that the short sellers of GameStop (GME) stock have not covered their positions, but instead have used various tactics to hide their true short interest and create phantom shares to manipulate the price. Some of these tactics include:

Using deep in-the-money call options to create a “reasonable belief” that they can deliver the shares, while avoiding the reporting of fails-to-deliver (FTDs) and short interest1.
Using deep out-of-the-money put options to sell phantom shares that they expect to receive from exercising the puts, while driving down the price and creating more FTDs2.
Using massive amounts of put contracts to hide FTDs and short interest in January 2021, when the stock price surged to over $3003.
Using complicit brokers, market makers, and financial media to restrict trading, dump phantom shares, and spread misinformation about the short squeeze being over3.
If the Gamestop Theory thesis is correct, and the shorts never covered, then the short sellers are still exposed to a potential short squeeze, where the demand for the shares exceeds the supply, and the price rises rapidly.
