There's no point to having a currency then, large entities(nation state's or multinational corporations) can afford to settle directly in the commodities backing the currency, especially if its simply metals as storage wouldn't be much of an issue.

You should bother reading some history on the subject before making spergy statements like this; introduction of a fiat currency to stop the spiral of another might quell the panic for a brief time, that is until everyone realizes they've been handed a bunch of worthless paper all over again. Really all this does is further inflame the populace, and in their agitation they rush to get rid of their new paper faster than they had with the previous fiat. Their fears can only be mollified by the introduction of sound money, whether this comes by private or public means is anyone's guess.
