depending on where you are, its actually pretty cheap! Here in BC a mineral claims $30 per cell, each cell being 20 hectares. I am not sure what the prices are in the states but I think its similar to file a claim.

it really wont make a difference for tarnishing but if you dont want the coin scratched i would suggest leaving it in a case. I do like to have a big heavy coin in my pocket to fidget with too though, I carry this 1880s silver dollar found in a hoard at Sandon.

I would just go with full ounces unless your after something more for looks like nuggets or sample ores. Fractional gold is cheap but it just isnt worth it in my humble opinion.
