Yeah I’d stick with bitcoin. But Incase you’re actually serious smart contracts need real world data in order to self execute/self verify but having this data come from a single source defeats the entire purpose of immutability and unkillability that the block chain provides. The blockchain is really great at consensus because it’s backed by a set of mathematical proofs within its own boundaries. The problem comes in when you went to inject data from the outside world to trigger one of these highly secure smart contracts. Have a centralized oracle trigger a smart contract on an immutable public ledger doesn’t make much sense. You don’t want a highly secure contract triggered by a highly insecure system and then pays out from another highly insecure system. I believe and I’m sure a lot of others here too believe the best method is to build a decentralized oracle network where if one fails it the contract will still execute. This is a major problem that chainlink is aiming to solve. It’s a problem that many people don’t even know exists. This post will get buried. I’m sure only 20 people will see it tops but maybe this explanation helps you to see how important chainlink is.
