It's good to have small portion of platinum along with gold and silver, as a speculative metal, and I agree with >>58403278

Platinum has a great growth potential depending on its future industrial uses (like hydrogen fuel cells). It's much rarer than gold, so if new uses arise its price will increase a lot, likely surpassing gold once again. Also it's unlikely that its price will plunge significantly, since it's a nice metal for jewelry and it will always be rare and have small uses in different industries.

However it was never used in a monetary system, unlike gold, silver or copper, because of its scarcity, hardness and higher melting point.
