Not for mtg, i'd know, since i'm tracking on a weekly basis the 250 most played OG foils registered on EDHrec. Never witnessed any buyout, but for the 2 i listed here >>24769470.

Only mtg buyouts concern RL cards or stuff from early sets, and it's never complete buyouts, since it's almost impossible considering the printruns runs too deep. At best it's group of sharks managing to get their hands on 25-30% of the supply at time T, then when the price jump, everybody start to fetch in their binders and dusty shoes boxes for said card, and the week after you get a 15% influx of the card from randoms to make up for the missing ones, invariably. The distribution pattern of mtg cards prevent buyouts to be efficient. That's why the potential for old foils is so big, since the printrun was so limited yet 99% of the player base ignore it, otherwise they'd already be 10x what they currently are.

Daily reminder MTG old foils (pre-8th) have the same printrun as alpha (for the pre-torment change ratio, who went from 1/100th to 1/70th), are extremely scarce (especially in good condition), ridiculously undervalued, and will be the next big thing.
