Monero is closest to the original spirit of Satoshi and crypto.
Might as well rebrand to Bitcoin-Monero for instantly adding a billion in market cap.
When I try to explain Monero advantages to Bitcoin maximalists that bought BTC before 2014 and they don't understand it, I always have the impression that these retards were just lucky. They believed in Bitcoin back then, but they never really understood it.

I hold some XMR just for the spirit of fucking government, banks and taxes.
Holding mostly btc but xmr has been one of the very few OG coins that has the strong idealism of early crypto still going. Plenty other coins have degenerated into becoming bank coins, bitches of exchanges or betting not much different to the stock of a company.

>Wont they see the Monero withdrawal transaction to an address?
The trail ends at monero!
They will see you bought Monero and the exchange will have one record of the Monero withdrawn. Thats it.
Nobody can see whats happening inside the Monero network. That is why there is no Monero richlist etc.

>Hardforks are a necessity to make major upgrades to the codebase.
Can't they just change the codebase in a way that it can evolve without a hardfork?

>portfolio variance/covariance estimation & risk mgt.
Just spreading out investment over a few coins should be sufficient. Following very basic principles gets you like 80-90% of the way. Once shit really goes down everything is suddenly correlated anyway, since the population of crypto traders is too homogeneous.
However, diversification can be nice in good times to keep the ride upwards smooth and idiosyncratic risk low.

Here is a good (but very incomplete) correlation matrix: https://bitinfocharts.com/correlation.html

1. Buy Bitcoin @ Coinbase, Bitstamp or Kraken.
2. Transfer Bitcoin to Poloniex (largest Altcoin exchange)
3. Buy Monero with your Bitcoin https://poloniex.com/exchange#btc_xmr
