The question to ask is: if Satoshi were to start Bitcoin again, from scratch, what would he change?

>There was recently a story about a Ukrainian(?) politician who stored millions in Monero to avoid taxes or something.
I bet that politician doesn't have the Monero. This is just a 3d chess move for him (or his parent who are also politicians) to accept future bribes in form of XMR.

>Just to be more specific, I wonder if I'd get an order of magnitude higher hash rates with a GPU ...
You will get 10-20 times lower hash rates on GPU vs a CPU.

Yeah, you read correctly. GPUs suck and are at a very big disadvantage mining XMR.
RTX 3090 GPU might get 2000 H/s while AMD 3990X gets almost 50.000 H/s and even uses less energy.

Ironically governments mingling with crypto will turn out a complete farce and will show people the light.

Would be interesting to watch.

In such a case, I imagine other big (state) actors that use XMR to their benefit would try defending the chain.
That said I believe XMR market cap today is way too. State actors might pop up once XMR crosses the $50-150bn range.

That I'm proud to be a Monero bull
where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the miners who mined
who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her with all might
Cause there ain't no doubt,
I love this chain!
Freedom is our right!

And I'm proud to be a Monero bull
