This. I've spent my life on the east coast, and Chicago is far and away the greatest major city in the US. But it is rotting due to not caring about crime.

New York would be where Chicago is, except New York had a few years there where it went full Right Wing Death Squad on crime.

In 20 more years of current policy, Chicago will be Detroit. In 50 years, New York will be there too.
