With the advent of LLMs, and particularly the launch of GPT4, manufacturing online consensus is now a pure question of computing power.
Someone with the computational capacity to simultaneously run millions of instances of GPT4, can create an online consensus of literally anything they like.
Imagine going online to say "the sky is blue" only to have 100,000 online "people" tell you it's green.
With this in mind, you could radicalise every single person on the planet in a different direction, at whim. You could make it so they all finally crack and step out their front door to "do something about it" at the exact same time, but you could make the "it" they are responding to completely different for every person.

The search for online "community" is now utterly meaningless, as the distinction between another person and a GPT4 instance is imperceptible. The search for any sort of online consensus or likeminded people, similarly so. You could be surrounded by a cloud of bots agreeing with you, you would feel like the life of the party, or disagreeing with you, making you feel like a schizo loner, and neither situation would be real in any meaningful sense. Just you and a cloud of bots responding to you.

The world has not comprehended these facts yet. The enormity of this shift has not been processed by the hivemind, and by the time the hivemind understands it will be old news anyway.
We can talk about cryptographic guardrails, about the unbelievable necessity of decentralised ID and proof of humanity, but those technologies are flailing and lagging far behind what LLMs bring to the table for authoritarian governments, for three letter agencies, and for anyone tasked with disinformation and muddying the waters.

Online truth and online community just died, forever. An authoritarian dream come true. And nobody is discussing it. Or are they? Does my bubble just not show them to me?
