The difference is that one does it through abundance and the other through asceticism. But it should be said that the monk would absolutely swap with the former's life in a new york heartbeat if he had the choice. Abstinence from carnal desires and renouncement of material wishes, by choice or by force, does not mean those urges become any less potent.
