I have a very small bit in SPGP which is 3x SP500, though no 2x longs right now. would have been great a year ago but oh well.

i've been a long time dave listener going on 7 years now, back then i listened during commutes and now i listen to every show on podcast hours at a time. I have the membership and everydollar plus which is pretty bitchin' for keeping up the budget with debit cards for the wife and myself.

you guys have to take dave with a grain of salt. he's incredibly successful for a reason, he's incredibly profitable for a reason, and his shit works for 99% of amerifats, just like walking two miles a day would. i do about 90% of his plan to the T - I simply didn't cut my 401k to zero but I did cut it significantly, and I cut my personal investing significantly in favor of paying down the last of our student loans, which are $9,200. I also have a positive net worth with 3 paid for vehicles. I also eat literal beans and rice during the week to keep our food budget down. I know beans and rice is a bit of a joke for Dave followers but some well seasoned yellow rice and a can of black beans is pretty damn good.

As for Dave's reasonable expectations for overall average mutual fund returns, he's not kidding, and you guys are kidding yourselves if you don't agree. you can argue what the real return of the SP500 has been over time but 8-11% is being realistic. there's no reason you can't imagine a mutual fund beating that overall. sure once you pull out the fees etc it's going to be closer to the S&P but the point is simply that for most people who are panicky, it's good to have a money manager in your corner telling you to HODL instead of sell, and you might as well make a half a point or so better than the market while you're bullshittin'. for you and me, we can pick and choose to make or slightly beat the market, or hedge with divvies, but for 99% of Dave listeners they can't.
