Actually now that I think about it the US hyperinflated once before and solved it by just buying back the continental funbox fof a fraction of their face value and trading them for treasury bonds, so they might just do the same and pay out in gold backed notes (since they own the largest gold reserve in the fucking world this shouldn't be a problem)
Fuckin wild stuff though, would definitely hurt the US position in the world with all its debtors looking for some goldbux to cover the massive debt it owes. Unless it whips out Big Gun Diplomacy on those fuckers, which is a little less limely but always a fun possibility.
