dvpns are not slower, nor have more latency, (just check the app) they just liberalize who can offer bandwidth, they might even be faster, cause they allow anybody to monetize, so you might get nodes that are way closer to your location, data centers with excess bandwidth could even sell on sentinel platform , those nodes would have the best specs, but again specs depend on single nodes not on the protocol itself.
sentinel is also working on a v2ray implementation so that it can breach the great china firewall
