Everyone gets red in the face when you mention the mere possibility that buying a house may not be the ultimate, best ever, wisest, and greatest of all time financial decision. You usually get these counterarguments
>you have to pay anyways, might as well own!
>it's an asset, it appreciates!
>you're throwing money away!
while there's merit to these responses, those making them don't factor in opportunity cost and perhaps renting something cheaper than you're willing to buy. Even if buying a house generated more wealth over 2-3 decades, it would be marginal at best, but that's really not the case. Now here comes the anecdotes about how so-and-so's house doubled since the pandemic, or appreciated higher than average in X area in recent history. Owning a house is a lifestyle decision, and it's a good choice. No need to grind your teeth at someone for suggesting that buying a house isn't the optimal financial decision. A different story if you're pure real estate investment and renting out your single family home, apartment, or willing to rent out your extra bedrooms.

i dropped a few hundo on a pair of moscot sunglasses. it's hard for me to find sunglasses that fit and go with my face shape since my head is pretty small. i think dropping a good chunk on sunglasses/watch is worth it since they're not regular purchases, and you wanna make sure they're quality and/or look good on you.
