It wasn't just the engine failing. It's the fact that after the pilot shut off the engine (which does happen all the time), THAT'S when he had to declare an emergency because it led to other problems.

737 MAXs were doomed from the very beginning. Read this shit.

Do some research, there's a very good chance that the 737max will NEVER fly again. They cut corners leading to structural design flaws that they tried to paper over with computer-driven systems written by cheap outsourced pajeets. They should have invested into building the new model from the ground up, but instead they rushed the Max out to compete with Airbus, and now it's very likely to be unfixable by any navigation computer system changes.
