I am a mechanical engineer and I'm working in field but salaries in my country are low. Is there any point in trying to get some gigs on freelancing sites or even contacting companies directly, or just moving to IT altogether? This whole sphere doesn't 'fulfill' me in the slightest and I finished college just so I could have a safe job and I just picked lesser of two evils and went with this instead of IT.

Right now i feel that all the years I've spent in college and the past two or so years i've been working in the field are kind of a burden in my career since I don't care about this field but i feel starting from scratch would be a waste. I don't give a shit about IT either, i just want to find a path that would lead to a life i want to live (more money and free time).
