Just buy stuff you enjoy that's not far over spot. e.g. some gold kronen, kruger, platinum maple & britannia etc. and a box of silver (maple, britannia or kangaroo coin boxes).
Large bars can be fun but a single 100oz or 5kg one is sufficient for playing with, they are not cheaper than smaller stuff and inconvinient unless you stack large quantities.
