Yeah. I agree with this. I was talking to a friend the other day (he's in logistics as a data scientist and his dad owns a small regional trucking company in the Southeast) who says the same thing. Highest expenses and inefficiencies come from paying the driver, insuring the driver, and accounting for the driver's fuck ups. Probably a close second is the fact that the driver legally cannot spent more than X amount of hours in a day behind the wheel. The driver MUST rest and this usually happens over night when the roads are free and clear of traffic. Everything in shipping and logistics is tied down to how much performance you can squeeze out of human being and it turns out that it isn't much. Who bears the weight of all of these costs? The end of the logistics chain, us the consumer.

If you have a self-driving truck most problems go away and shipping/deliveries can be made at half the cost in half the time.
