I agree with you the currency is backed by labor and that creates the value of the metal, which is why metals are good for proof of work. They were able to use those metals at the peak purchasing power because the jews could not devalue their labor through inflation, their metals through commercial paper, or their peoples through the media. It is not misinformed to say they were backed by silver because I literally have silver Reichsmarks. Works proof is metal tradeable as a medium of exchange. They used metal, silver was not the sole thing of course however the most important part tk recognize is that the metal is physical and digitcal coins are a digital iou for that.
