The "soulful" part of pre-2010 Office was that it didn't take a perceptible amount of time to execute every action even on a brand-new computer. Like seriously Office 365 on my basically brand new reasonably solid work laptop has noticeable lag (100's of ms) for almost every relevant action whereas Word 2003 was instantaneous on reasonable late-2000's hardware.
XP was a weird era where hardware advancement legitimately outran software bloat for a brief period, now the speed only needs to be "good enough" as devs cram whatever shitty features or cloud-connected bullshit needs to be in it this week.
