If it works for you then it wasn't a dumb decision. I spent $250 on an Xbox 360 and hardly used it at all. Felt like a jackass. None of the games brought me joy like morrowind and donkey kong country did.
Best times I ever had with vidya was probably with snes roms I downloaded over dialup. I enjoyed the guitar hero clone game on 360 that teaches you how to play bass, but my family 'borrowed' it and destroyed the disk, broke two bass strings and the cable jack. But that's nothing new, they would always break my stuff. Locks have been changed since so hopefully never again. It's hard to find any happiness really. I envy you in a lot of ways.
