Give me one good reason I shouldn’t just keep my BtC balance on coinbase. It’s simple, always right there when I need it. Just don’t lose your phone it’s that simple.

I’m new to crypto and I have a few questions.

What exactly is cryptocurrency? I spent some time researching and watching the videos on Coinbase and from what I can tell it’s a way to pay or transfer money quicker and cheaper than wire transfers in a way that is very resistant to fraud. Is there something else to it? Is my definition wrong?

What makes them valuable? Bitcoin was the first – why doesn’t everyone just use Bitcoin? More specifically, what is the value and purpose of altcoins? Even more specifically, what are the valuation metrics? Is there a fundamental approach to crypto in the same way there is for stocks?

When I look at stocks I try to see if I understand what the business is, look at the proxy statement/IPO docs/10-K and see if they have government contracts, a subscription model, the P/E ratio, etc. For the technical stuff I usually look at the RSI but I don’t really give it all that much credence. Is there something similar with crypto? I have been lurking and seen mention of “nodes” and “data feeds” as well as the market cap as indicators.

What would be a good investment amount? I am currently considering $300 into a sub $1 coin like XLM.
If all of that is too much, are there any youtube videos you could point me to? Thanks:)
