This slide goes over why they're not making a base "app" themselves, no need. Rather than having an app that tries to do everything, they've provided the base platform and left it open for business owners to customise the UI to fit the service they're selling.

It's also open for devs to code / use plug-ins to provide a fancier UI on top also, there will likely even be mini-hashtag businesses offering this very service.

This one glosses over one of the reasons why they're not making their own app.

The possibilities and uses for this are SO wide ranging it would be idiotic to try and make an app that encompasses it all. Better to create the platform, and then let the business owners choose the GUI so it's relative to the service they're offering.

Some simple tools could help with this easily, with API and plugin support for experienced devs, (I imagine there will even be a hashtag offering those services..)
