He wasn't really your friend in the first place. There's likely a lot of red flags that you've missed. He's so self-absorbed that he sees you the way a farmer sees his pig. Since you've outlived your use, there's no reason for him to stay connected with you. A person like your "friend" will never have gratitude of any kind so it's pointless and detrimental for you to remain as his friend.
