You might from time to time snag a recruit with a substantial amount of money. Perhaps a trust fund recipient. But most of your followers will not have much wealth. Therefore the bulk of their time should be dedicated to productive activity. Of course your cultists should be tending to crops and livestock as their top priority, however they can also be used in various profit-seeking endeavors to bolster the cult coffers. I do not recommend making novelty complaint department fake grenades. That did not end well for the last sex cult that tried it. Stick to woodworking.

All in all you should not expect your sex cult to be financially profitable. The majority of the cost is in setting it up: land, facilities, etc. But if that initial cost is covered you should be able to be self-sufficient come what may in the outside world.
