Very New fag here, hoping for some sage wisdom.

This is the part i am still struggling to understand.

Let say I have a coin that's made 5x and i would like to take half of that out to fiat for a vacation or even just to re-invest into an other coin on the dip. If during this 5x in USD value, BTC has gown down byhalf let say, then trading with a 5 rate BTC would technically make my alt coins gain 10x no?

And let say the opposite happens, if my alt coin has gone up 5x, but BTC has gone up 10x (for the sake of argument), does trading it to BTC negate my earnings?

I feel like this seems to be the case, as so far I've often seen coins I've purchased go on a dip in the charts but my accounts total USD value doesnt. And its because BTC or ETH whichever pairing im looking at, is going up while my coin is actually just plateauing.

Am i wrong? or is this actually how it goes.

Thank you.
