the problem of optional privacy is not of people turning it on or not, it's that it still doesn't solve the "tainted coins" issue, doesn't fix fungibility and also it might even make you stand out more instead of your transactions looking like everyone else's, for example like using the web on a VPN, you are standing out as the person on the VPN that probably has something to hide
