Your boss sounds sneaky. Be careful of those types, ultimately people like him are there to save their own asses. He'll say what he thinks you want to hear to you then turn around and tell HR things they want to hear.

Just observe how your co-workers treat you, it's very likely they are the source of the complaints against you. Notice if they like you or not, look out for some smarmy person with an agenda.

Very likely HR is just reacting to what people around you are saying. I had the same problem to, I thought my performance wasn't good enough despite giving my absolute all, but my co-workers disliked my 'attitude' and the way I look so some smarmy cunt complained me to HR.

If you are able to figure out what your surrounding things of you, you can determine whether you want to stay there long term. It's likely not your lateness, theres a snake in your environment.
