Yes, but the risk is only for assignment for a max loss. In all likelihood, that will not happen since I use >15 DTE. I pick a best case scenario SPY price to close at and a worst case scenario SPY price to close at. So realistically, even when I'm 75% of my buying power into a movement (I almost never go 100%), I'm really only going to be down 20% max. Which is basically the Kelly criterion and where I feel comfortable.

It's pretty comfy not having to worry about theta, plus you can just keep rolling if you want to.

I believe that TD Ameritrade does charge to close. I use tastyworks which I am happy with, it caps commission at $10 per leg of the trade. It doesn't charge to close, but it charges $1 per contract upfront so it's basically the same thing. I do like not worrying about closing costs though, holding to expiry is dangerous and I wouldn't do it. But to each their own.

Yes, just to avoid assignments. As long as it doesn't go too far in the money I think you will be fine, but that is a bit too much for my personal risk tolerance. Would buying options not be better in this case? Genuine question, I am interested in 0-1 DTE options, but I haven't gotten my feet wet yet.

I highly recommend verticals, it's not the crazy gains that buying options can give, but I have been able to double my account in October and I am not looking to mess with that. Best of luck to you.

Also I meant to say in my previous post, I think it goes without saying, but just in case, the fundamentals and TA have to agree with opening a position, not just doing the opposite of what the market is doing.
