I've thought about it too and I think it was because it priced it about at about $11 and then went up, along with other chinese tech stocks IQ, HUYA and some others to $20 and then it went back again. During that time it was quite talked in these threads.
Add to that the begining of the trade war and the general skepticism americans have about China and the fact that the CCP took down the app from the store temporaly because of lewd content which spooked many people.
