My older brother, who has a middle school education and squatted on our mom's land in a decrepit trailer, consistently unemployed until he was nearly 33, is now a millionaire. To be fair, he's a talented builder and worked the trades on and off for drug money since he was a teenager, which was his foundation. He stumbled into a union construction job, established that he could read prints, and ended up project manager in less than a year. He then leveraged that experience into his own little general contractor operation, which everyone mocked at the time, but now he has ~40 guys working for him, owns an equipment rental store, is sitting on 50 acres, and is worth millions. I'm not sure just how much, exactly, but he's fucking rich.

HOWEVER... his dad (he's my half-brother, although I never really cared about that but just for the record), helped him get his first property. His dad is by no means a rich man, in fact he worked in some slaughterhouse in KY for a decade and eventually became a prison guard, but that man helping him buy a shitty trailer and a few acres jumpstarted his entire career... but then again my brother is truly a hustler and I genuinely believe he would've succeeded either way. It's also worth noting that although he is rich, he despises his wife and is depressed now that his kids are grown and out of the house. He has no real friends and is surrounded by spineless yes men who laugh at all of his retarded jokes. When he actually meets new people in earnest who are also successful it fucks with him. He constantly plays some cartoonish "I'm just a dumb countryboi!" character that he's no trapped in although he wants to be taken seriously. I consider all of these details often as I contemplate things like determinism, free will, etc.. does any of it matter at all? I love my big brother, and although we don't get along because I'm honest with him and don't kiss his ass, I wish I could help him bust out and properly enjoy his success.
