shorting the market it very bad idea almost always cause long term upward bias. simplified you would be then commit a coinflip 60-40 with 40 expected side, kinda, depending on time frames etc. unless you have really good proven systems then it may be ideal move short term sometimes. hedging portfolio is another thing then again than shorting for profits.
