i have a bunch of these balance is distributed among many of them to mitigate risks at cashing out and certain other risks. many copies at different locations also digital copies.

the passphrase is split with m of n shamirs some parts sent to my kin, some in a safe some deposited at a layer and also included in my will.

no single actors can get to my coins anyhow. it would take a large collusion and i would likely be dead when my family does.

not really emp is way overrated. you need some serious cable length to produce appreciable current. inside electronic devices this doesn't really exist. they way they are housed and the construction of modern buildings would protect over 50% of the it infrastructure. half the world would be shielded anyhow so it's not like we can lose our tech level or even cloud storage. also paper wallets give zero fuck about emp.

you should also look up bip38 paper wallets
the reason i recommending it is, secure redundancy will never be so affordable any other way. also while bitcoin addresses are somewhat quantum resistant in a quantum supremacy setting a deterministically generated hierarchic private key (anything seed based really) can be generated from any other private key from the same hierarchy and once you transact a single time your pubkey is exposed... basically you are fucking screwed if quantum computers become a thing and you trust these gadgets. but you can also get screwed a dozen other ways with them.

secure redundancy means you store your secret securely (from theft or confiscation) and at multiple locations so a single disaster won't destroy them all.

for inheritance and stuff also look up shamirs for secret sharing!

>Just don't be a retard and put it in a plain text file everywhere.
that's the most important thing yes, but please for gods sake educate yourself on the better alternatives!

for example more and more wallets support bip38 and soon enough exchanges will directly swipe it for you which means you will never ever have to decrypt your private key on your own device.

i agree with this anon sadly.

redundantly stored bip38 paper wallets with strong passphrase (20+ chars) will bankrupt a galactic empire to break open.
most hardware wallets can be cracked with a few grand of equipment and some technical know how. unencrypted seeds are just beyond retarded.

i rather recommend this solution instead
bip38 encrypted paper wallet.
you can print it out and store it digitally in many copies for practically free.
secure against theft. cheap. and redundant.

litecoin had no segwit when it began and you could always make a litecoin fork that has no segwit. still wouldn't be bitcoin. even if you make a coin that 110% adheres to the bitcoin whitepaper and call it the "honest to god real bitcoin satoshis original vision" it still wouldn't be bitcoin.

just use paper wallets. your goal should be cost effective secure redundancy.
you achieve that by using bip38 encrypted paper wallets and store them at multiple locations both physically and digitally.

hardware wallets are good against online hacks on hot wallets. they need physical access to become a vulnerability. they are the fucking worst for cold store.

paper wallets are the best course of action if you don't want to spend money on it. requires some understanding of what is what and following good standard practice.

it gives you the best secure redundancy for your buck on the world.

if you wan to actively use crypto not just hodl paper wallets are pretty shit.
