As disgustingly optimistic as the place is, go by reddit. Every day it's people working on ways to get adoption.

It's proof of stake. If there is a double spend, or conflicting info, nodes vote. Wallet is a node.
It isn't crashing. It went from $2 to $35 in two weeks on literal garbage exchanges that had outages and deposit/withdrawals locked every other day.
It has stayed high because nobody wants to come off their stack.
