>>XMR dealers selling Monero for cash on street corners would likely become a thing.

>haha yeah good one, that's absolutely not what i was planning to do.. no...

Its too obvious to not become a thing:

1. Normies will increasingly prefer the convenience and safety of buying drugs online

2. Monero will become the default and only means of payment on the DNM.

3. Plenty of normies will prefer foolproof simplicity over even minor "complexity" i.e. atomic swapping

4. "Dealing" XMR would be as easy as printing out paper wallets, folding em up and handing em out like crack vials.

This might be a little tricky if the price is still volatile, but if you created and sold the wallets on a daily basis it could work.

So apparently there is now a second team working on BTC<->XMR atomic swaps, specifically the front-end client.

>XMR<>BTC on stagenet - update by COMIT

This is a quick update by the COMIT team on the status of a usable XMR<>BTC swap tool.

In the last two weeks we did multiple XMR<>BTC swaps on Bitcoin testnet3 and Monero stagenet. Here is a video of the demo branch in action: https://asciinema.org/a/384047

The current version of the swap tool still has a few rough edges that we are currently ironing out. Techies can already give it a try, but we know the setup - especially on the Bitcoin side - is still quite cumbersome (requires full bitcoind testnet node with txindex enabled and depends on bitcoind internal wallet). We focus on usability next.

We are now moving on to creating a single-market maker MVP. The MVP only focuses on users buying XMR from a fixed market maker advertising a price on a website. The execution of the trade between the user buying XMR and the automated market maker selling is then done by using the swap tool. The MVP will focus on a CLI version only for the execution.

A big thanks to the community members that provided feedback. Our conclusion is that it is OK to start with only one direction and one fixed maker. The solution can then gradually evolve by adding the other direction and decentralizing maker discovery and orderbook to eventually have a decentralized marketplace.

By initially only offering to buy XMR, users don't run into the problem of having to deal with tainted Bitcoin (only the market maker has to deal with that problem).

You can find all the details of the MVP in the kick-off email on our mailing list.

Stay tuned for a more usable MVP and a belated Happy New Year :)

This is significant because the official team (Farcaster) is currently only working on the AS back-end.

Exciting year ahead, Moniggaz!
