The best anon to ask this for is >>54930038, he's a master scrapper.
Best thing to do as a started is to have a good resource for hallmarks' identification.
This one made by a passionate is a scrap bible :
https://www.silvercollection.it/index.html
Learn in priority the hallmarks of your country and then the neighboring ones.

Few tips :
>most the best deals you will find will be on ebay
>Do NOT buy anything with no clear hallmarks you managed to identify on the picture. Many, many ppl list items as solid silver/sterling when in fact all they have is shitty electroplated stuff worth nothing. They aren't even malicious in their intent, they simply are retarded.
>be patient. Even if money is burning your pockets, don't forget always more good deals will show up
>fix yourself a clear target to never pay over. It can be $15/oz
>don't forget the basic maths : always keep in mind to x.925 etc depending on the purity of the items, include the shipping fees
>be sure to avoid filled and weighted silver items if you are new, things like knives, candleholders, etc... you'd be surprised how thin the silver layer can be and how much concrete they can fit in a handle
>buy a jeweler loupe (with light) and a precision balance. You can find those for 5/10 bux online, they will be very useful to check the hallmarks and be sure the weight is correct
>don't hesitate to message the seller if you have a doubt or if some infos are missing (don't try to guess the weight by a picture, simply ask)
>try to outbid at the last second. Set your phone alarm two minute before the end of any auction you are interested in, get yourself ready and put your final price 5sec before the end of the auction
I'm forgiving some, but it should be a good starter for you. Good luck fren!
