Even a tor node goes down with enough time and money to break encryption or subpoena servers. E mail platforms can hand over your data via similar means or even their own discretion. Anonymous devices still leave digital footprints that may allow forensic analysts to deanonymize the user. What if they traced it back to the device, and could prove that a shill owned or possessed it. Then those crooks are trying to convince a judge/jury that they can't prove it was them using it.
