Can someone explain to me why someone would buy an ETF like SILJ, instead of just looking up their stock allocation and then copying them by buying the same amount of the same stocks? Wouldn't the result be the same but without ETF fees?

Looking to buy my first silver coins.
How can I verify that it's legit without fucking it up? I've seen that image about testing it in water, but won't the water fuck the silver up?
And do I need to keep the coins in airtight containers so they don't rust?

If I go to a hypothetical shop and spend Verge, they know my wallet balance and where my money came from. Merchants can track where I spend my money in the future to target advertising. How is this private?

With Monero, all of these above situations are not possible. You CANNOT just label something as private without truly understanding what is necessary for privacy.

the only way the IRS can find out that you own crypto is by ordering your bank to reveal your withdraws, which would turn up coinbase, gemini, kraken, etc. if they do that, then you can either claim that you are still long-term holding and haven't traded or cashed out (you can't deposit back into the bank from an exchange to claim this), or claim that you lost the private key to your wallet and therefore own no crypto property. they can't do anything past that point except to monitor you, so wait a year until they've lost interest in you and then fly to a tax haven, open a bank account there and cash out. not that hard
