you'll need to ofcourse backtest not just use indicators but scripts so you can get long/short/cash signals and actual results. otherwise you would be kidding yourself. and even then most people dont understand backtested results and how they typically show flawed strategy but even if results fine the strategy can be flaved and curve fitted
