I got switched on
She and her family were scheming, turns out they were in it for the money lol
They put on an act and I was naive and young enough to take their word for it
As soon as the date started approaching her parents started interfering and became upset that I insisted on a church ceremony even though my fiance and I agreed to it before I proposed
Turns out they didn't think I was serious, and when they realized I was they started making threats saying her side of the family wouldn't come (since they were not Catholic, they felt uncomfortable having the ceremony in a Catholic church)
Of course none of that was brought up until they figured they had me
Also she took the $5,000 diamond ring I got her and went with her mother to the jewelry store to put down another $3,000 on it so she could have a bigger rock (since her friend just got engaged too at the time and was given a $20,000 ring)
All in all, they tried attempting the ol' switcharoo on me. Luckily for me they tried doing it just before the wedding. I guess they thought I wouldn't nuke the whole thing by that point.
They were wrong.
Unfortunately shortly after I called it off and we got down to the dirty work of separating and I stupidly put her name on a rental property I had purchased with my parents help. She didn't pay towards it, but because her name was on it, she basically demanded to be bought out.
Of course they consulted with a lawyer and carefully calibrated the buy out to be just below the cost it would be to take the entire matter to court
I learned a valuable $35,000 lesson that day

We’ve allowed women to do something unprecedented in human history, we’ve given women the reins of the direction of human reproduction.

And we’ve done this at the same time we’ve maximally restricted male sexuality. Dr. Jordan Peterson once predicted that in the future any expression of male sexuality will be illegal. I would amend that: any Beta male expression of sexuality will be deemed offensive or illegal.
