unfortunately yes for many operations it is. Crews like Parker's and Tony Beets have massive operating costs so they need to move massive amounts of material to make money, however there are plenty of smaller operations scattered across the territory that make money too. The issue now is that people have to keep going further and further into the bush to find pay dirt, and its getting prohibitively expensive for new comers. Same goes for BC, the best ground is in the middle of nowhere, and only the established crews with excavators, washplants and a decade of info behind them really have a hope to make major money at placer mining. Yet every year now more and more people are trying their hand at mining, more people bought ground this spring than the last ten years combined. The entire province of BC is staked up, the Yukon isnt far behind. Welcome to the modern Gold Rush
