Not true, if Melvin defaults then the liability shifts to whoever enabled Melvin's naked shorts, and so on up the tree. This is why "margin calls" are a thing, and why Citadel threw $2.75 billion dollars (that's with a 'b') at Melvin to give them enough to cover their margin calls the day before yesterday. Which lasted Melvin all of about thirty seconds into the market open.

So, we know Citadel is exposed (probably because of options buys, IIRC they're the market maker for the call options people have been loading up on), and Citron, and Melvin. We'll see who else gets assreamed.
